An Interview with Chinara Corey

What led you into the field of obstetrics and gynecology?

During my early years of training as a student-nurse, I was in awe during my mother/baby and Labor and Delivery rotations. I knew I was passionate about this field and requested assignment to the maternity/postpartum unit once I earned my Nursing degree. After a few years of hospital experience, working towards my NP degree was a no-brainer.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

My nursing career began in 2011. I have been working as a Nurse Practitioner since 2016, predominately in gynecology.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

My heart swells whenever I have a patient that tells me how much I put them at ease, and changed their perception of healthcare and of getting their routine screenings. Many women have had past traumatic experiences with the medical establishment, and I aspire to be a force of positive change for women. I enjoy creating lasting relationships with my patients and coworkers.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

I love my Southern roots, but I wanted to move to the “Big City” for a completely new experience. This practice in particular has such a great following and enjoys such respect among providers and patients alike. I am honored to be a part of the team at WHP.

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an OB/GYN?

I enjoy educating and treating patients with abnormal Paps, HPV, and recurrent vaginitis. I also have a knack for welcoming first-time patients who may be anxious about their exams into the world of gynecology.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

I enjoy traveling, trying new foods, attempting to cook, dogs, and anything musical. Mostly I am a homebody/introvert and love to read and spend time with my close friends and loved ones. I am a firm believer in ‘good vibes’ and positive attitudes and try to engage with those with this same type of energy!
