“As a nurse practitioner, my goal is to deliver safe and effective preventive care for women, and to work towards eliminating health care disparities among women.”

I was born and raised until the age of 12 in the beautiful Republic of Panama. After high school, I started as an LPN, and worked as a nurse until I earned my Masters’ Degree from Long Island University/Brooklyn as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in 2009. I’ve worked as a nurse practitioner in the maternal/child unit of the Brooklyn Hospital Center since 2004. I also worked part-time for many years in a private gyn office in Queens. Most recently, I earned my Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University of Nursing. As a nurse practitioner, my goal is to deliver safe and effective preventive care for women, and to work towards eliminating health care disparities among women. I’m honored to be a part of the WHP family…and please call me “Sammy”!

An Interview with Keena

What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?

A general love for and curiosity about women’s health. I’m passionate about being a part of the team that brings new life into the world.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

I’ve been a nurse for 22 years, and I’ve practiced in maternal-child health for 14 years.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

Even after all these years, I’m still moved by grateful patients, and the heartfelt “Thank you!” I get when my work has touched a patient’s life.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

Before working at The Woman’s Health Pavilion, I worked for many years in a practice that referred surgical patients to this practice. Patients returned to us with nothing but praise about their care. I’m happy to be a part of the WHP family now.

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?

The entire specialty is mind-blowing, but I’m particularly interested in female hormonal imbalances, PCOS, and infertility.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy being my baby boy’s muse, and traveling when time permits.
