An Interview With Dr. Osasu Asemota

What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?

During my third year medical school rotation, I had the honor of delivering my first baby. I remember feeling so blessed to be a part of such a beautiful moment.  I’ve always had a passion for woman’s health and advocacy, so Obgyn was the best fit for me.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

I have just completed four years of residency and look forward to a long and prosperous career ahead of me.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

The nature of being an OB/GYN itself is very rewarding. Again, being privileged to care for women in such a intimate and special moment in their lives is an experience that I am really grateful to be a part of. I’m excited to be a part of the laughter, tears, and potential lifelong connections that I look forward to sharing with my patients.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

Raised in Queens, I couldn’t imagine a better place to practice than close to home, serving the local community.

Dr. Saad began partnering with my residency program for laparoscopic cases about  1 year ago. Dr Saad has proven to be an excellent teacher and provider, and I wanted to join a practice that held similar values in women’s health care. Joining the practice seem like a great fit.

Do you have any special professional affiliations?

I am the founder and vice chair of the health sector of the Nigerian Youth of the Diaspora Engagement Forum (NYDEF). It is a group of professionals and volunteers who are interested in and dedicated to improving and creating health access to Nigerian citizens nationwide.

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?

I’m interested in minimally invasive surgery and infertility.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time ?

I enjoy skating, bowling, singing, and hanging out with friends and family.
