An Interview with Tiana Miller
What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?
I have wanted to work in ob/gyn ever since watching “A Baby Story” in elementary school! I went back to school to earn a second bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and worked in several different specialties in the early years of my career. This only solidified what I had known from the start: My true love is ob/gyn.
How many years have you been practicing in the field?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse since 2014. I started working in Labor and Delivery in 2018, and began my work as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner starting in January 2022.
What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?
What makes my job rewarding is being able to counsel women about their bodies. I take pride in easing patients’ anxiety and educating and advocating for patients. My greatest joy is sharing those special moments during a woman’s journey from first discovering that they’re pregnant to holding their newborn after giving birth. Working alongside some of the most intelligent, talented, and caring people I’ve ever met makes it easy to come to work every day.
What brought you to the area and to this practice?
I was born and raised in Queens and decided to stay. I’ve worked closely with the doctors, NPs, and PAs from WHP when I was a nurse at LIJ, and I was always impressed with their bedside manner, respect for patients, and their respect for one another.
Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?
I am passionate about the experience of pregnancy, from the early growth of the baby in the womb to the natural changes in a pregnant woman’s body. The whole process is beautiful, and I’m humbled to be a part of it.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my spare time I enjoy traveling, visiting beautiful beaches, swimming, reading, yoga, bike riding, and spending as much time outdoors as I can. My latest obsession is aerial hoop.
