“Ob/Gyns have the unique privilege of participating in women’s most unforgettable moments.”

I was originally born in a small town in India, but my family moved to the Middle East when I was very young. We subsequently moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where I was raised since the age of 4 years old. After graduating from Georgia Tech with honors, I attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, and eventually moved to Columbia, South Carolina for my Ob/Gyn residency at Prisma Health. As a resident, I was awarded for having exemplary in-service and oral exam scores, and was recognized also for my compassionate approach to patient care.

An Interview with Dr. Lahari Shetty

What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?

Since early in medical school, I was drawn to the combination of medicine, surgery, and primary care that comprises the specialty of Ob/Gyn. The breadth of the field proved to be an endless source of curiosity and wonder, which launched me on a lifetime of growing and learning as a practitioner.  I’m proud to be champion of women’s health, at their side as their families grow, and at their service at all stages of life.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

I graduated from medical school in 2018 and continued to my Ob/Gyn residency for the next 4 years. I joined The Woman’s Health Pavilion in 2022.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

Ob/Gyns have the unique privilege of participating in women’s most unforgettable moments. That is what drew me to this field from the get-go. In addition, I really enjoy having the opportunity to teach women about their own bodies. When I explain a difficult concept to a patient about their health and see their understanding “click,” I feel like I’ve made a difference in someone’s life that day. Women’s health is a vast and fascinating field, and the more we know the better we can take care of ourselves!

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

I wanted to try something new! I have lived in the South my whole life, but always wanted to move up to the East Coast and see what it has to offer. Since I grew up in Atlanta, I have a penchant for diverse, cosmopolitan cities. I was drawn to the camaraderie and skill I noticed when interviewing at WHP, and the freedom they allow to develop my own niche and practice in OB/GYN. It has been a wonderful experience so far!

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?

My heart lies in obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy, though I also have a particular interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. I have had extensive experience taking care of kids and teenagers’ GYN concerns during my residency, and would love to continue my practice in this area at WHP.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Mostly, I love spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading books, going to concerts, and I have recently been developing my talents in the kitchen. As a recent transplant to New York City, I also love exploring my neighborhood and the city. I am always looking for recommendations!
