An Interview with Marissa Scialpi
What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?
I’ve always been drawn to women’s health. I enjoy treating women at all stages of life—including pregnancy—and I’m happy to offer support each step of the way.
How many years have you been practicing in the field?
I started my nursing career in 2018, working as a nurse on the Mother/Baby unit at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Ultimately, I rose to the position of Charge Nurse. At the same time, I completed my academic and clinical requirements for my Nurse Practitioner degree.
What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?
The most rewarding part of my job is reassuring patients. Patients appreciate when I truly listen to their concerns and try to make a difference in their life, even with a small interaction at the office. All patients deserve to be heard, and when they feel supported, I’ve done my job.
What brought you to the area and to this practice?
I grew up on Long Island and returned to work here after college. Working closely with the WHP providers at LIJ demonstrated their 24/7 commitment to their patients. Many were great teachers, and all were passionate about their work. I feel lucky to be part of the team here at WHP.
Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?
I love being able to teach women about their own body. I want to help them understand why changes occur and hope to give them the tools to lead a safe and healthy life.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time
I like to spend a lot of time with my friends and family, especially at the beach in Summer. I love to travel and explore new places with my time off. I try to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle, following the same advice I give to patients.
