An Interview with Melin Pérez-Torres

What led you to the field of obgyn?

I became interested in ob/gyn during my own pregnancy in 1997, when I was cared for by a midwife.  With each prenatal visit I became fascinated by what she did, whether it was measuring my belly, educating me on what to expect, or preparing me for childbirth at weekly visits towards the end of pregnancy. The positive experience I had during my first pregnancy reinforced my decision to pursue a career in women’s health, and later to become a midwife.

What makes your job rewarding?

The job I do is rewarding because I am able to educate women about their body and how to care for themselves through healthy habits and practices.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I enjoy learning from women as I care for them through both the best and worst of times. I thrive on empowering women as they make decisions through every stage of their life. I enjoy the ability to provide continuity of care, and really getting to know my patients.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

Working in Labor and Delivery exposed me to the providers at WHP. After working together for 9 years in the hospital, I’m proud to have joined WHP as a provider. Joining this group has been the best the decision of my career.

What you enjoy in your free time?

During my free time I like to listen to music and travel
