Renee Wisniski was born and raised on Long Island. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Boston University before pivoting to nursing and earning BS and MS in Nursing from Stony Brook University. She subsequently attended Jefferson University for midwifery studies. Renee worked at New York Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City as a nurse in Labor and Delivery. She has worked at Northwell since 2008 as both a nurse practitioner and a certified nurse-midwife.

An Interview with Renee Wisniski
What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?
I started my career as a social worker in a shelter for women and children who were victims of domestic violence. When I decided to move on from this role, I knew that I wanted to continue to support and advocate for women. I answered an ad for a medical assistant at a women’s health clinic, and met my first nurse practitioner the day I started. She was amazing and I knew I wanted to emulate her. She was the reason I applied to Nursing school. When I started my rotation on Labor and Delivery, I knew that that was where I would spend the rest of my career…and I haven’t left since.
How many years have you been practicing in the field?
24 years
What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?
Taking care of a family during a pregnancy and ultimately delivering their baby is one of the most intimate experiences a provider can have. To be able to guide that process, participate in it and see it through to the end is extremely rewarding and quite frankly, an honor.
What brought you to the area and to this practice?
I am a local and have worked alongside WHP providers for 17 years. I decided it was about time to join them!
Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?
Yes, I am a huge supporter of unmedicated, physiologic birth and am well versed in perimenopause/menopause care and hormone replacement therapy.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Fitness and nutrition is a large part of my life and I get to the gym 5-6 times a week to keep my sanity. I love spending time with friends and family, especially my identical twin sister. I am a dog-mom to Emmet, a 10 year old goldendoodle.
