An Interview with Rivki Fixler

What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?

I love working with women and helping them navigate their health through all stages of life.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

I’ve been practicing in women’s health since 1997.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

So many things! As a woman, I feel that I am able to connect and empathize with my patients in a real way. After having my first baby, I found that first-hand experience with pregnancy and childbirth changed my approach and my perspective. I find it rewarding to use my own real-world knowledge and experience to put my patients at ease when they are apprehensive.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

I live in the Rockaways, on the south shore of Long Island; I am native to the area. The practice’s emphasis on treating all patients with warmth and respect really drew me in.

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?

I enjoy all aspects of OB/GYN, but I am specifically interested in improving access to all forms of contraception, and educating patients in this regard.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I spend time with my 5 children…we do lots of cooking and baking together. In my free time, I love working out: I’m a gym fanatic, and also a book lover.
