An Interview with Safiyah Khalfan PA-C
What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?
As a volunteer doula at NYU Winthrop Hospital, I supported birthing mothers with comfort and guidance while helping them engage in their care decisions. This experience solidified my commitment to women’s health and to empowering women with the knowledge to make informed choices about their reproductive care.
How many years have you been practicing in the field?
I have been a PA for more than 2 years, working in OBGYN for almost a year.
What makes your job rewarding?
My job is rewarding because I have the opportunity to support women through meaningful and vulnerable stages of their lives. I love building trust, educating patients, and helping women feel heard and supported.
What brought you to the area and to this practice?
I came to Forest Hills while completing graduate school at St. John’s University, and stayed for its diverse community, vibrant culture, and the opportunity to provide essential care to women in need. I joined the Woman’s Health Pavilion by recommendation from a friend who works here; she’s told me for years that she loves her work and appreciates her knowledgeable and supportive colleagues.
Do you have special interests or areas of specialty as an ob/gyn?
I am interested in caring for women in specialties of fertility and prenatal care.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy staying active through yoga, Pilates, strength training, and running, exploring new restaurants in NYC, and spending time with friends and family.
