I was born and raised in Chicago and have been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for nearly six years. I earned my undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago and completed my Physician Assistant training at Rosalind Franklin University. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care and building meaningful relationships with women throughout all stages of life.

An Interview with Sana Hira

What led you to the field of obstetrics/gynecology?

During my clinical rotations in PA school, I discovered that I loved having a hands-on role in patient care while also developing long-term relationships with patients. Obstetrics and gynecology offers a unique opportunity to support women through many important milestones, from adolescence and family planning to pregnancy, postpartum care, and menopause. I was drawn to the variety within the specialty and the ability to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

How many years have you been practicing in the field?

I have been practicing obstetrics and gynecology for nearly six years.

What makes your job rewarding? What do you enjoy about your work?

The most rewarding part of my job is helping women navigate different stages of their lives and empowering them to make informed decisions about their health. Whether I am caring for a patient during pregnancy, helping manage menopausal symptoms, addressing gynecologic concerns, or providing preventive care during an annual exam, I enjoy building trusting relationships and helping patients feel heard, supported, and confident in their care.

What brought you to the area and to this practice?

A recent move to Queens brought me to the area, and I was excited by the opportunity to serve the diverse and vibrant community of Forest Hills. I value caring for patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds and look forward to building lasting relationships within the community.

Do you have special interests or areas of specialty?

I have a special interest in contraception counseling and helping patients find a birth control method that best fits their lifestyle, goals, and individual health needs. I believe in educating patients on all available options so they can make informed decisions about their care.

I also enjoy caring for patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)—which has recently earned a new name: “PMOS” (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). PMOS can affect many aspects of a woman’s health, including menstrual cycles, fertility, weight management, skin health, and overall well-being. I am passionate about helping patients understand their diagnosis, manage symptoms, and develop personalized treatment plans that support their long-term health goals.

Additionally, I have a strong interest in preventive women’s healthcare and empowering patients through education so they feel confident and informed about their health at every stage of life.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Outside of work, I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and staying active through Pilates. I love exploring new places and experiences, both locally and around the world.
