Well-Woman Care

At The Woman’s Health Pavilion, we are not only experienced in treating gynecologic conditions; we are specialists in keeping women healthy and providing a range of well-woman services. Whether you see a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner, a midwife, or a gynecologist, we will make your visit to our offices in Queens and Long Island positive and productive. If you are looking for a new gynecology practice or your annual exam is long overdue, we are ready to make you feel relaxed and welcome while we help you feel your best.

To meet with an OB-GYN or other experienced practitioner at one of our offices in Queens or Long Island, call us or request an appointment here. We see patients 7 days a week and offer same-day appointments for urgent conditions.

Who Needs an Annual?

We recommend an annual well-woman exam, often called an “annual,” to help maintain your ongoing health through prevention and early detection of problems. This exam may include any or all of the following:

  • Review of your medical history
  • Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer and HPV
  • Breast exam
  • Comprehensive pelvic exam
  • Vaccinations
  • Other screenings

A routine well-woman exam in which no complaints are offered and no abnormal findings are discovered is often completely covered by medical insurance. Many Levittown and Westbury patients make the most of their time by having BOTOX® Cosmetic or Newtox® treatments while they are here.

Teens

The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends a first visit to an OB-GYN at 13 to 15 years old. This appointment typically does not include a full examination, but it’s an excellent opportunity for us to make a trusting connection with girls as they experience the changes that puberty brings. We explain ways young women can protect their health and make smart choices. We generally schedule these first appointments with one of our younger female physician assistants or nurse practitioners to put our younger patients at ease.

Sexually Active or Over 21

Once sexually active, women can turn to us for a range of contraceptive options as well as screening for sexually transmitted diseases. As women mature, the annual GYN visit is increasingly important for the prevention and early detection of harmful conditions, including a variety of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cancers. As women approach menopause, our extensive experience with both hormonal and non-hormonal therapy can guide them through this transition while helping them continue to feel their best.

After Menopause

Today, the average woman lives approximately 80 years, which means most women are postmenopausal for one-third of their lives. An annual exam supports continued health and helps women age gracefully by detecting problems in their earliest stages. We help women keep up with recommended screenings, take proper supplements, and manage common symptoms after menopause.

Preparing for Pregnancy

We encourage women who are planning to become pregnant to visit us for preconception care before they start trying. Our physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, and physician assistants help patients adopt healthy habits including exercise, nutrition, and supplements if indicated. We offer screening for genetic disorders and conditions that may lead to infertility. Our goal is for our patients to start pregnancy in the best possible health.

Visit our Obstetrics page for more information about pregnancy and our maternity services.

Contraception

Women who want to prevent pregnancy have a range of birth control options including the Pill, IUDs, the ring, and surgical sterilization. We encourage patients to meet with one of our knowledgeable practitioners to review options, to understand how each type works, and the associated pros and cons. We can help you choose the one best suited to your body, lifestyle, and personal preferences. If you aren’t satisfied with your current method of birth control, we are happy to recommend one that suits you better.
